Helen & Douglas House Hospice for Children and Young Adults is a registered hospice charity based in Oxford, UK. They provide free palliative, respite, end-of-life, and bereavement care for children and young adults, and their families. Click here to visit their website.
Helen House was the world's first children's hospice, founded in 1982. Douglas House followed in 2004, to provide the same services for young adults between the ages 16 - 35. Both houses were named after their first visitors, and they haven't stopped growing since. However, they have to raise over 85% of the £5 million needed to run the two hospice houses via voluntary donations. This means they are almost entirely reliant on the goodwill of others.
Out of the Blue have proudly supported the charity for the last eight years, donating a significant percentage of our annual profits to them and regularly visiting the hospice during term time to sing to the families and staff. The support provided there is astonishing and the optimistic tirelessness of all the staff has left us all in awe after every visit. It's a wonderful place and it holds a special place in all our hearts.
For a number of years we've also taken part in one of Helen & Douglas House's biggest annual fundraising events, a variety show called Childish Things. This year was the event's final year, but the teaser trailer on the right explains why the charity is so special to us.
