Workshops

If you've seen Out of the Blue perform before at one of our

major annual concerts -- at a West End venue in London or

Oxford's 1,800-seat New Theatre -- you will hopefully have

experienced a fun-filled night of tight harmonies, outrageous

choreography and an ample dose of pyrotechnics.

However, the true highlights of our year are the opportunities

we have to share our music with school children and young

adults throughout the UK and the USA. By conducting dozens

of school workshops every year, the group aims to instil

in participants a sense of courage and adventure when it

comes to performing and engaging with music, as well as ignite

an appetite for engaging with the arts (and making a fool of

oneself on stage!).

In this section of our website, we wanted to share with you some

of our favourite workshop moments, along with the occasional

fan letters and hand-drawn portraits, that make our year as

meaningful and exhilarating as it is.

As part of each workshop, the group runs through a series of

physical, breathing and vocal warm-ups ( the same ones that

we do before every Out of the Blue rehearsal and performance)

with the students. Then, we begin splitting the students up

into groups and teaching them the music, lyrics and

choreography to one of our own songs. We end by putting all the

parts together and staging the number in the venue; and if we

have time, we conduct a beatboxing tutorial as well, for the

restlessly rhythmic students in the group!

When we hold workshops at schools or on the day of our big

yearly concerts, we often have an opportunity to showcase the

students' work in an assembly or concert that same day, by inviting them onstage to perform the song with us! Our next set of workshops will be on our UK Tour in December, in which we’ll be visiting a whole variety of different schools across the country to inspire students to sing!

If you have any questions about our workshops, or would like to explore the possibility of having Out of the Blue conduct one at your school or in your area, please don't hesitate to contact us through our website.
